Wait, so a dog two squares away won't move onto the tile between you two (that you are moving on to) if a dead animal is on it?
Animals will never move onto a tile that another animal is on (dead or alive). This is a technical limitation of how the game can only have one mobile, one tile, and one player at most on a single spot (and other reasons like how it would be hard to tell how many animals were on a single spot).
They will also not move adjacent to a dead animal, unless you are on that tile. This rule is mainly just for balance purposes, and is occasionally broken such as if the pet is already on the adjacent tile, or jumps back to it when a robbery finishes.
Ah, thanks. That is an important distinction.

Today im getting visited by only 1 person every few hours in my house while this was dozens per hour a few days ago. Anyone experiencing the same? My house is in the 30 k pricerange btw.
Could be the people who visited you before have chills on your house? Or maybe your visit/kill ratio is scaring people away. I've noticed my visits have died down a bit since it was released on Steam.
After I'm tired and bored from a long and fruitless suicide robbing chain I sometimes accidentally walk straight into pitbulls because I start moving too quick through corridors, I think that's the same case with all the other burglars that do this mistake.
No, he turned deliberately into it.
Thanks cbenny! I really do appreciate it. Although I just died from self-testing, so your sacrifice was in vain ![]()
David Matthew Whitman, thank you for going into my $100 house with 5 saws and running into my pitbull. I'm sure nobody is stupid to do that enough by mistake, so I am assuming it was intentional and appreciate the extra $1100 to rebuild my house.
I'm curious how he was able to confirm that...
Anyway,
You were robbed, josh!
Probably checking security tapes, among other black arts.
We were robbed too! I was so ready to swarm him with other players, heist-style, but we'll have to wait for another to come along and try that on.
Wish you could die from being crushed in a powered door... that would be funny. So many cool trap ideas.
Yeah, I second that!
One problem that I'm constantly struggling with is that I can't seen to build a house that is expensive enough to hold off the burglars that are using the whole of the $2000 of starting cash in tools and yet cheap enough to leave me with the necessary money to actually attract any burglars at all. And these kind of thieves are a problem even when they die because they make the house value rise too fast and attract more item-carrying-burglars before you have the time to update your defenses. Goddamn you people who burglarize for the sake of burglarizing.
Robbers: good at robbing, bad at math.
noxalis wrote:jere wrote:Conspiracy theory: Jaynes (the new top player) is Price. Price conveniently died in Jaynes house (I'm guessing) because there is so much money + paintings. Also, the house entrances look remarkably similar.
Crazier conspiracy theory: the forum user Immhotep is Jaynes/Price. He claims to have killed price. HOW CONVENIENT. Registered 3 days ago... about the start of Price's run. Sig is "Death is only the beginning..." and references a character who comes back from the dead to become super powerful.
Price knew he wouldn't last much longer as Price and had to take on a new identity to survive.
Ok, actually neither of these are probably true. But I'm having fun entertaining the thought.
1 guy supposedly dying isnt a conspiracy theory. Learn what it actually means before saying it.
Conspiracy theory - Immhotep is Noxalis is joshwithguitar. JWG created Immhotep when he saw that everyone was working against Mr. Price in the crowdsourced map. Immhotep was supposed to draw the attention off of Price by building Jaynes house, and when the time was right, Price would transfer all of the money to Jaynes. This would hopefully make peace with the rest of Castle Doctrine - that's why he named his alternate account Immhotep. Imhotep means "The one who comes in peace, is with peace".
At the same time, he realized that his strategy might not work. Thus, he created a second alt account - noxalis. "Actio noxalis" is a part of roman law that deals with violence done by someone's property. Thus, he is obviously a symbolic counterpoint to the "peace" of Immhotep. When jere figured immhotep's identity, jwg used noxalis to try to throw suspicious off of Immhotep, first by undermining the conspiracy theory, then by making a second thread that claimed to have killed price. When JWG affirmed that Immhotep's picture was a fake, everyone would assume that noxalis killed price.
So who killed Price? NO-ONE!!! JWG realized that Price was going to be robbed eventually, so he decided to have Price retire in a way that everyone would think he died. He created 2 accounts, and then, when a promising random house (Jaynes) rose in value, started an extended editing session with Price. When people started to think Price died, he had his alts post pictures of Price's death, knowing that in the confusion and chaos, people would latch onto one or the other, but no-one would even suspect that Price isn't dead. Really, though, at this point he's sipping martini's at a beach on an private island he bought.
So can we go after all of them, just to be sure?
Also, now I am thirsty. Excuse me while I go get a drink.
Sybernetik wrote:Speaking of Price, I haven't seen him on the list since noon. Being robbed or is he at home making changes?
This might answer your question...
Damn, and I was all ready to pull off a heist a la Reservoir Dogs...
Im down, ill need a little time tho as im away fro my computer for next 6-8hrs
Ok, email me with your net worth, availability, and chill time (if applicable) and once we have enough people we can get this party started.
update: It's almost a pity, but Price is dead: http://thecastledoctrine.net/forums/vie … php?id=846
We can always try this again when the next tyrant arises, colorfusion...
he'll probbably just change his house if we get close at all. We need someway to disscuss this without him seeing it.
Interested players should email me; I'll coordinate an order and time based on net worth and peoples' availability. We just need a dozen, maybe half-dozen people, and the richer players don't even need to die; they just need to be mid-scouts. I just died from being bored/careless and can lead with a suicide scout as I have nothing to lose at this point. colorfusion, therealcheese, gyuri, iceman, largestherb, arakira, Amatiel, jere, liteS, Banakai? We can do this.

I didn't get too far, only brought one crowbar. Some of the wired wooden walls might just be wooden walls.
I sense dog swarm beyond those powered doors. Did you mean to post two identical links?
Both maps seem incorrect or at least severely outdated. I did some scouting which I'll use to update the map in a moment.
Yes, his counter reset.
protox13: Well, I've already gotten $1M net worth as Mister Earl Wilson, so that one is already checked off. And there just isn't that much money in the game any more. finding ALL the paintings would be a real hassle - who knows how many are hiding in abandoned $26 houses?
My aim - the one Jere inadvertently set me - was to show that it is possible to survive at the top for a week: http://thecastledoctrine.net/forums/vie … 7619#p7619. Of course I am taking out the houses systematically but that isn't stopping some people coming into my house with $120k of tools...
Amatiel: If you want your house to be safe, just make sure you don't get in my sites or make it to the top 8
. Then it is unlikely I'll take you down. And yes, if anyone so much as peeks past my walls they probably won't have a house for long. Nothing personal, just the only way to survive with so much money.
It's too bad you redid your house- looks like maybe someone got far enough to make you worry. You had quite a kill streak going too...
Well, one has to have goals, no?
Aside from taking out upstarts and tinkering with your house, what else in this dystopian (ha ha, autocorrect wants to change this to "utopian") world do you have to occupy your time? This would have the side effect of giving you even more peasants to put down, though.
I have the capacity to do so but I am afraid to act against Mr price lest he retaliate with an entire hardware store of tools. However, i really don't like someone above us having this much power, he could keep (and has been) knocking people off with expensive houses with ease as they get high worth, thus cementing his rule.
If you enter my house even once Mr Price, I will retaliate and contribute my entire wealth to this effort.
Please just sit in your house and enjoy your rule while it lasts. Don't ruin it for the rest of us who are just trying to save for that painting we really want!
I believe you are in a position to set a record for house value no? Play nice good sir!
I have the same worries. If we could coordinate and knock him out before he could retaliate, it would work, if or others were willing to suicide scout and add to the map, it would work. But his kill rate has doubled since I posted this and only one other person has contributed despite over 500 views, so I really doubt it.
Hey Josh, since you're at the top and apparently unkillable, why not go for something crazy like consolidating all of the art in the game, and/or getting over $1m net worth? That would be pretty awesome...
had a good look inside XD!!! bummer I didn't bring moar ladders tho and I'm out of cash lolz
Herez my map hope it helps~~~ http://castledraft.com/editor/HSMjvk
LOL! Thanks for being a good sport about it. Doesn't look like this idea is going anywhere, though. And for the record, he is now 249/109.
We should post house visits/deaths for our maps, so we'll know when he updates it.
Good idea. Currently he's at 153/66.
Pretty interesting idea for a lot of people to all gather information, like a gang of thieves. I've got the chills in his house at the moment.
Earlier I counted that there were 10 steps of the house staying the same, then everything turns on for a turn, then the door opens for 1 turn (2 if the cat gets stuck in it) then the door closes and everything remains off.
It's based on an idea I shared in an earlier thread (post 5 here: http://thecastledoctrine.net/forums/vie … hp?id=752)- with a large enough player base you could eventually see the formation of thieves' guilds and guild wars, which are meta game factors departing quite significantly from Jason's original idea. It would be interesting to see if that will happen.
rule one of the castle doctrine, your house WILL be destroyed. i am quite fine with that.
'oh no someone brought 1000 saws and sawed to my vault' review your house design. you can do some clever things without wired walls that lead straight to the vault.
of course, no matter what house you make, it will be crushed. eventually.
i already have a plan for pricey
My contribution: http://thecastledoctrine.net/forums/vie … php?id=832
Nothing personal, jwg- its just that I'm near the top and we're running out of paintings, so you would have come after me eventually.
So, individually, it's impossible for any one of us (except maybe the few around $50k net worth) to break into Mr. Price's vault. However, if we cooperate in taking him out, I'm sure he'll be toppled before the day is over. So, to kick things off, I'm submitting this map of his house from the welcome mat, which folks can add to as they progress throughout the house.
Please post updated castledraft links in this thread with notes on which tools are useful (and how many), but remember where/what you see in terms of animals and electronics may not reflect their beginning state when you entered the house. Errors and misleading additions can be checked by subsequent raiders.
http://castledraft.com/editor/q0YNjU
Good luck to the person who eventually topples him. His only defense will be to burn through his money and imagination, constantly reworking his house. Nothing personal, but we're coming for you, Mr. Price... welcome back to our world.
I hate combination locks, they are a dirty trick that makes the robbery practically impossible for players that don't have the expensive tools needed for brute forcing the way through it. So I had this idea: An test probe. It would be a tool that you could use on exposed wires or electric floors and it would give you an map showing every other electronic component connected to it. I think this addition would make comb locks way less common.
Too powerful and unbalancing. For the price of the probe you could potentially map significant portions of a house.
pix0l wrote:One thing I learned the hard way is that you need to wall your power sources,it is pretty obvious but sometimes a burglar with just one saw and a bottle of water can ruin your cleverly designed commit trap so ...
you can kind of prevent people from having very easy/repeatable exploration of your house with something like this http://castledraft.com/editor/O3UGnP
doggy commit gates are probably one of the most effective.
That's true insofar as people don't return with a doorstop- and poorer robbers often don't.

Please stream that for us.
Yes, please!
